NSFA AI

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

1. Overview

NSFA AI ("we", "us", or "the service") is a multimodal content moderation system that detects potential wildlife exploitation in social media content. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect when you use our website and analysis tools, how that data is used, and the choices you have.

NSFA AI is operated as an independent initiative in collaboration with Magnetic Core Nature Lab and Wild Around. By using the service, you agree to the practices described below.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Data you provide directly:

  • Account information: Your name and email address when you register or are invited as a user.
  • Content you submit: Images you upload, social media URLs you paste, captions, profile descriptions, and location notes you enter for analysis.
  • Moderation inputs: Notes and status decisions you record in the moderation interface.

2.2 Data generated automatically:

  • Analysis results: Risk scores, labels, detected species, environment classifications, AI reasoning, and all structured fields produced by the analysis pipeline.
  • Metadata from URLs: When you submit a social media link, we fetch the post's preview image and caption to populate the analysis.
  • Usage data: Basic analytics about how the service is used, such as pages visited and features triggered.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To run the multimodal analysis pipeline on submitted content and return risk assessments.
  • To store analysis records in a structured database for the moderation queue and historical reference.
  • To improve the system's methodology, prompt design, and risk-scoring rubric over time.
  • To communicate with you about your account, access requests, or service updates.
  • To produce aggregated, anonymised statistics about wildlife exploitation trends for research and advocacy purposes.

4. AI Processing Disclosure

Submitted images and text are processed by third-party large language models and vision-language models (LLMs) as part of the analysis pipeline. These AI providers may temporarily process your content to generate the analysis response. We do not use these providers to train their models on your submitted content beyond what is necessary to generate the response.

NSFA AI's outputs are generated by AI and may contain errors or hallucinations. Analysis results should be treated as decision-support signals, not as definitive factual determinations.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Analysis records are stored in the NSFA AI database and persist until deleted by an authorised user or administrator. Uploaded image files are stored in our file storage and linked to their corresponding analysis records.

If you wish to have your submitted content or analysis records deleted, you may request removal by contacting us (see Section 9).

6. Third-Party Services

The service relies on the following categories of third-party providers:

  • AI/LLM providers: Process submitted images and text to generate analysis.
  • Cloud hosting and database: Store application data, files, and user accounts.
  • Social media platforms: When you submit a URL, we fetch publicly available metadata (og:image, og:description) from the post page.

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.

7. Cookies and Authentication

The service uses authentication tokens and session cookies to keep you logged in and secure your account. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.

8. Your Rights

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may update your account information at any time.
  • Deletion: You may request deletion of your submitted content and analysis records.
  • Withdrawal: You may stop using the service at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us as described in Section 9.

9. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise your data rights, please contact the NSFA AI team through the About page or by reaching out to the project maintainers directly. This policy may be updated periodically; the "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
